Sewing Tables vs. Ordinary Tables

Sewing Tables vs. Ordinary Tables

Having a beautiful and functional sewing table, can be life altering! They’re great for extra storage, but that’s only part of the story. The real advantage of a sewing table or cabinet (over your dining room table) lies in the sewing well — a platform set into the table’s top that can move your sewing machine into flatbed position.

In this position, the sewing bed sits flush with the table, allowing fabric to flow along a level surface rather than up and over the base of your sewing machine. This position allows your wrists to sit at a more natural angle, and also helps you sew straighter seams. Lots of tables feature an airlift mechanism that allows you to push the platform all the way down, so that your sewing machine can be stored out of sight! Some models even have leaves that fold over the empty space above the platform, allowing you to use the surface as a desk or craft table. Other models close up like cabinets and can be rolled out of the way or used as end tables. To see all the different features clearly laid out, consult our handy comparison chart!
